What
is Counselling?
Counselling is a therapeutic
process which takes place when the client and counsellor engages
in a safe, warm, confidential and non judgemental environment
to explore any issues or distresses the client is currently experiencing.
With active listening,
the counsellor is able to see difficulties from the client’s
perspective. This helps the client see their issues more clearly,
and with choices or changes will enable
to help the client work through their issues and help reduce
any confusion or distresses which are placed upon them.
During the counselling process clients are able and encouraged
to freely explore various issues, feelings and thoughts in such
a way that may not be possible with friends and family. This
may be due to many reasons including fears of being judged, gossiped
about, receiving unwanted opinions or advice from others.

How does Counselling work?
Christine
is a person centered counsellor using various techniques from
different theories to meet the needs
of her clients. As a member of the British Association of Counselling
and Psychotherapy she adheres to their ethical framework and
policies.
In her role as counsellor she does not judge, give advice, opinions
or tell you what to do. Christine feels that clients are their
own experts with their issues. She allows clients to have the
freedom to explore and understand any issues or difficulties
within a confidential, warm and safe environment. By being empathic
and showing unconditional positive regard towards her clients
allows them to make choices to help manage their issues better
and help ease any distresses which they may be experiencing.

The length of time that counselling may take depends on the
particular person and the type of problem. An initial discussion
with a counsellor may give an indication of the possible length
of counselling that may be valuable.
All consultations are completely impartial and confidential.
